Ask, Map, Move, applied to code.
Engineer of One brings the Of One method to software: define the change before any agent starts, map where risk and leverage sit in the repo, then ship the smallest tested diff. You can read the whole method at of1.ai.
Ask: define the change
Before an agent writes a line, we answer eight questions: who owns the change, what done looks like, what the code does today, which limits hold, which levers exist, how the change rolls out, what evidence proves it worked, and when it has to land.
Map: read the repo
The map shows where changes pile up, where tests are thin, which modules everything depends on, and where a wrong agent edit would hurt most. That tells us where to start.
Move: ship small, measure
Then we build the smallest change that tests the riskiest assumption, behind tests, and measure it in CI and in production before making it bigger.
In practice
In Consult, the method shapes each pairing block from the first question to the first merged change. In Build, it sets the weekly rhythm. Both teach it to you, so the next framing is yours to run.
